Nicodemus Archleone is the leader of the Order of the Blackened Denarius and hosts of the fallen angel Anduriel. He first appears in Death Masks.

The eldest Denarian, Archleone is a master manipulator, taking the long-term view in everything he does.[1][2] He's superficially charming, grandiose, manipulative, and incapable of love, empathy, or remorse; generally the caricature of a typical psychopath.[3]

In the seriesEdit

Archleone's aims are unclear, but he shows a long-standing interest in religious artefacts, such as the Shroud of Turin,[4] and the Holy Grail.[5] He is also interested in recruiting willing members for the Order of the Blackened Denarius, and has always a number of Order of the Blackened Denarius#The Coins available.[4]

Nicodemus could possibly be a reference to Saint Nicodemus[Footnote 1] from the Bible, who helped wrap Jesus in the Shroud of Turin. It's unknown whether the two are the same person, or if it's just a coincidence.

Archleone means something similar to 'roaring lion', as described in: "the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour."[Footnote 2] Archleone enjoyed this description when Dresden mentioned it.
