New Short Story: Christmas Eve — Peace Talks teaser?

You can read it via the link below! It was publicly posted for everyone this past Christmas Eve (which it is named after) & follows Harry while he builds a bicycle for Maggie, being visited by several dignitaries from Winter throughout. In one such visit, we learn of some huge conflict with a large amount of casualties; far more than any of the post-Cold Days novels or short stories have, & the phrase “peace talks” is literally mentioned verbatim in the story.

Since we know for certain that it’s set at least after Cold Days, I think it’s safe to say that it’s actually set _after_ Peace Talks, & that this was our first teaser! What do you think?

Mac an angel?

Faery queens and norse gods show him respect. An outsider called him a watcher. He always points Harry in the right direction. Is he possibly an angel or maybe even God?

I haven't really paid attention to it, but we have a page for wizards, a page for warlocks, a page for sorcerers, but practitioners are included in Magic and there's no page for minor talents.

Should we merge them in Practitioners?

Thomas & Toot

This is a very random question, but... anyone remember when and where Thomas sees Toot for the first time? I just can't find this anywhere.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this before, but how does the Nightmare successfully maul Harry in his dreams when the Leanansidhe has a literal fortress on her side of the Nevernever? She mentions piles of bones of entities that tried to attack him & failed, but the ghost of one chump sorcerer can waltz right on past & take a bite out of him?

Karrin Murphy…but as a Denarian ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

The nose is perfect provided that you throw in some hair dye too, but in all seriousness it would be really hard to make Murphy a Denarian without absolutely breaking her character. It’s so antithetical to her personality & beliefs, but I think you MIGHT be able to feasibly have a situation where she became a Denarian if it was to protect someone else (a la Harry picking up Lasciel before Little Harry could do it).

Provided that you had successfully made such a drastic change, I wonder what new plotlines could be explored for this little ‘what if,’ if she’d still be Harry’s friend or not 🤔

Outsiders and parallel universes

I've gotten into a speculative mood (yes, it happens also to me) and a thought struck me.

Assuming that the series gets that far and the projected parallel-universe "Mirror Mirror" book gets written, multiverse concept will be explicitly established in the DF series, and this implies that the Outside will border on multiple universes. If so, would Outsiders try to penetrate other universes or not?

High-order speculation, I know, but I'm all too human.

Is there a Summer King?

dresdenfiles.wikia.com/wiki/special:contributions/ has brought up an interesting question.

According to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfG2ZIdYdr4, the Erlking is the Summer King, while according to https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/25q3em/i_am_jim_butcher_author_of_the_dresden_files_the/chjnt21/?context=3, no such a figure exists.

Any suggestion on how to correctly amend the proper pages, dresdenfiles.wikia.com/Summer_Court and the dresdenfiles.wikia.com/Erlking?

Sarissa & the Adversary [Spoilers]

Everyone who’s read Cold Days knows that…
…the Redcap transferred the Nemesis to Cat Sith. Well, he ALSO held Sarissa captive before sending her to deliver his ultimatum to Harry. If she’d really been captive, he could’ve easily infected her, & that means the Summer Lady, for the second (or possibly THIRD) time could’ve been compromised by Nemesis. What would that mean for future books?

Brief Cases.

According to http://www.jim-butcher.com/posts/2017/storypalooza, ''Brief Cases'' has just made a biggish step forward toward publication, and, apparently, ''Peace Talks'' is slated next. One can still hope!

However, I'll remind editors that main space pages about both books will not be allowed until at least two of three events have happened: 1) an official release of a publication date; 2) an official release of cover art; 3) the official release of at least one sample chapter on JButcher's site. '''Public''', rather than to a restricted group of RPGers.

UPDATE: http://www.jim-butcher.com/posts/2017/brief-cases-to-be-released-summer-2018 gives a date and an index.

Faith Magic Theory

Faith Magic I think might not actually be magic in & of itself, just a fundamental force in the world that other creatures such as the undead react to (Red & Black vamps combusting on contact for example), when normally faith is just faith, doesn’t do anything really magically speaking. It explains why Michael was able to call up fire in Grave Peril; Vampire proximity. You’ll notice also that their swords don’t do anything unless there’s a baddy nearby, which reinforces the theory that faith magic is simply the way other magical creatures react to faith, hence why mortal Susan’s cross glowed against Mavra. There’s no actual power, just thoughts, maybe a bit of energy at the most. Think about the way the swords work; it has been stated numerous times that it’s simply “Michael’s faith multiplied a thousandfold”. That makes sense with the theory, because the swords themselves don’t actually DO much of anything other than:

A) glow,
& B) exude an aura that only demons n nasties are harmed by, & that only wizards sense (since they can sense normal faith).

They never light non-monster things on fire, they never glow without the presence of adversaries, they don’t even really cut more than the average sword. It’s just that faith, which monsters normally react to in varying degrees, multiplied so much that even creatures which are only minorly affected by faith (Faeries, Denarians, Hobs) are now receiving enough of it to be damaged.

There’s also the fact that you don’t really see cases in the Dresdenverse of magic being “multiplied”. Added to, gathered, coalesced, focused, directed, but not amplified by some sort of magical tool. Harry references physics many times; you can’t create something from nothing. It is said multiple times that the swords actually multiply or amplify faith, so that might mean that it really is just a sensation or thought that is given depth by the swords, depth enough to have an effect on monsters that normally wouldn’t even blink at a cross in the face.

What does everyone think?

Are the comics considered "canon" here?

They aren't referenced in any timelines or anything. Example: There's an article for the "War Cry" comic, but its characters don't have articles and the events of the comic aren't described in articles for, say, Thomas Raith, the White Court (did they REALLY provide material support for the Red Court!?) or Harry Dresden. So, in short, is it OK for a contributor to add this material or would that be shut down due to this wikia's canon policy?

New Infobox Style & other Miscellaneous Theme Changes

Hello all. I just wanted to announce that we are currently working on a new Infobox Style for the Main Wiki, in addition to a few template updates to make things feel less boxed & more fluid. To see the differences, compare the Monobook Infobox to the Oasis Infobox, just look to the right. The Infobox style you see in the Monobook Skin will likely replace the current Infobox Style in the Oasis Skin you are viewing currently, albeit slightly different so as to fit the surrounding theme. In addition to that, several templates may be overhauled for a more curvaceous shape (compare StubSection to Dresden Files stories), and some other small miscellaneous changes to the Wiki’s theme may occur. In addition, we have a bit of a referendum as well. As you likely already know, External Links have a small icon beside them. On my home Wiki, our CSS removes this link so that external links are indistinguishable from normal links. There are pros & cons for doing this, so I wanted to ask any contributors what they think.
This announcement is intended to serve as both an advance warning as well as an opportunity to voice any concerns & to ask questions. For the moment, the changes will only be occurring on the Monobook Skin, but will begin to show up in a week or so on the Oasis Skin (the one you are currently viewing). If you have specific changes you would like to see, if you have suggestions for the infobox, or if you would like some of the foretold changes not to happen, feel free to let us know in the comments.

References + New Templates

It is currently customary to place “(ref)” or “(ref?)” next to sections of articles that need references, rather than using any kind of superscript like Wikipedia does. Well, no more. I have a new template, called {{ref}}, which automatically places the reference request in superscript, as well as adds that article to the references needed category, so that they can be tracked. I’d like to ask, if you see instances of (ref) beside articles, to replace them with the {{ref}} Template, if you can’t add the actual reference itself.

An example of the difference is below:
Old:Karrin Murphy is blonde. (ref?)
New:Karrin Murphy is blonde.(reference needed)

Source Mode Differences

[[Karrin Murphy]] is blonde. (ref?)

[[Karrin Murphy]] is blonde.{{ref}}Side Note
There’s also another Template, {{SectionStub}}, which can be placed in sections of articles where there is scarce info & a need for expansion. Check out the Karrin Murphy & Deirdre pages for some examples, & maybe help flesh those pages out eh? ;)

I'm applying for the admin/bureaucrat position on this wiki, and I'm required to post an announcement and a call for opinions.
I'm about the only one to edit some here, looks like, but here it is.
